Vishnu Lakshmi Panel with Ashtalakshmi and Dashavatara Border

Vishnu and Lakshmi sit at the centre as the stabilising axis, their composed presence anchoring a richly structured field of abundance. Around them, the eight forms of Lakshmi unfold within arched niches, each representing a distinct aspect of prosperity, from wealth and sustenance to courage, knowledge, and continuity. Their seated postures and symmetrical placement create a measured rhythm, allowing multiplicity to resolve into order.

The panel is organised in horizontal registers, each framed by pillars and arches that echo temple mandapam architecture. This structure contains the figures while guiding the eye across the surface with clarity and balance.

Along the vertical borders, the ten incarnations of Vishnu appear in sequence, forming a protective frame. Their varied postures and attributes introduce movement at the edges, contrasting with the calm central presence.

The wood is deeply carved and enriched with polychrome, where greens, reds, and ochres settle into the contours. Birds, foliage, and yali forms interlace the composition, reinforcing fertility and protection. Light catches the raised detailing while recesses hold shadow, enhancing depth.

Placed within a space, the panel functions as a complete visual field of order and prosperity, where structure, symbolism, and material converge into a unified presence.
