Ganesha is seated on a coiled serpent throne, the body held in a relaxed yet commanding posture, with multiple arms radiating outward in a balanced spread. The serpent rises behind him as a protective hood, its expanded form framing the head and creating a contained arch. Above, the kirtimukha crowns the composition, anchoring the upper register with a protective, temple-derived motif.
The figure is richly detailed, with each arm holding attributes or forming gestures, while the trunk curves naturally across the torso, softening the symmetry of the form. The tripunda marks the forehead, reinforcing his Shaiva association. At the base, the mushaka turns upward in a gesture of devotion, completing the narrative at ground level.
Carved in vaagai wood, the surface is deeply worked and then finished in vibrant polychrome, with reds, greens, and golds articulating layers of ornament and structure. The carving retains depth beneath the colour, allowing shadows to gather within recesses and enhance the overall relief.
Vertical and visually dense, the sculpture functions as a focal shrine piece, well suited to an interior setting where its colour, carving, and iconography can be experienced together.
