10-Armed Mahakali with Sword and Skull in Bronze – Swamimalai, Tamil Nadu

Mahakali stands in a forceful, advancing stance, one leg firmly pressing down upon the subdued figure beneath her, establishing a clear vertical of dominance through the body. This grounded thrust becomes the visual anchor, from which ten arms extend outward in a disciplined arc, each carrying distinct ayudhas that articulate her function as both destroyer and regulator of cosmic order.

The central hands hold a sword and severed head, marking decisive action and the severing of ignorance, while the remaining arms carry weapons and ritual objects arranged with measured spacing.

The gaze remains steady, framed by a crown and flanked by flowing hair, containing the intensity within a composed facial structure. The garland of skulls and the girdle of severed forms are rendered with rhythmic precision, integrating symbolism into surface detail rather than excess.

The bronze surface carries a deep, oxidised patina that gathers unevenly across the figure, settling into the recesses of the skull garland and the articulated limbs.
