Wooden Panchamukhi (Five-Headed) Hanuman

Panchamukhi Hanuman stands in a commanding frontal stance, his five faces radiating outward in a unified, vigilant presence. At the centre is Hanuman himself, composed and resolute, while the surrounding faces extend his presence into multiple realms.

Varaha lifts upward with primal force, Narasimha projects fierce protection, Garuda sharpens the form with alert precision, and the horse head, often identified with Hayagriva, signifies knowledge and disciplined clarity. Together, they create a complete field of protection, guarding all directions at once.

His many arms expand the figure laterally, each hand carrying a weapon or held in controlled gesture, creating a rhythmic spread of force rather than chaos. The symmetry stabilises the complexity, drawing the eye back to the central, grounded stance.

The wood is carved in dense, high relief, where each face is sharply defined yet softened by the material’s natural warmth. The arching halo frames the figure with layered ornament, its edges catching light while the deeper recesses hold shadow, heightening the sense of depth. The grain moves through the sculpture, giving cohesion to its multiplicity.

Placed in an entryway or meditation space, the form asserts itself as a protective axis, holding the environment within its expansive field of awareness.
