Structured as a temple mandapam, the composition opens through carved wooden doors into a sanctum-like interior where Krishna stands at the centre, flanked by Rukmini and Satyabhama. The eye moves first through the architectural frame, from the stepped roof and carved base to the inner shrine, before settling on the central figure.
Krishna stands in a gentle tribhanga, his body slightly curved, holding the flute close to his form. His posture introduces movement within an otherwise frontal composition. Rukmini and Satyabhama stand on either side, their bodies angled inward, their gestures attentive and engaged, directing focus toward Krishna.
The inner arch frames the trio, while the outer wooden structure extends the painting into a three-dimensional shrine. Painted guardians on the doors hold their positions even when opened, maintaining a sense of threshold between exterior and interior.
Gold ornament rises across the figures in dense relief, defining jewellery, garments, and contours. The surface catches light unevenly, giving depth and weight to each element.
This work occupies space like a freestanding shrine. It invites a frontal approach, where the act of opening and viewing becomes part of the experience, holding the gaze within its layered interior.
