Monumental Shiva Parivar under Tree in Panchaloha Bronze – Lost-Wax Cast, Swamimalai, Tamil Nadu

Shiva stands in a composed samabhanga, his upright axis aligned with the spreading canopy of the tree that rises behind him. The trishula held beside him establishes a firm vertical counterpoint, while the raised hand in abhaya mudra offers assurance. Parvati stands close at his side, her stance gently offset, creating a paired balance that anchors the central field.

Behind them, the tree unfolds into a dense network of branches and leaves, forming a circular backdrop that both contains and expands the composition. A serpent coils upward along the trunk, its sinuous movement integrated into the branching structure, introducing a subtle tension between stillness and latent motion.

To one side, sage Narada plays the veena, while Ganesha stands near Parvati, adding a domestic, familial register to the otherwise formal arrangement. The eye moves across these figures and returns to the central alignment of Shiva and Parvati.

Cast in bronze using the lost-wax method, the sculpture carries a softly varied patina that settles into the intricate foliage and ornament. The surface holds detail without fragmentation, allowing the composition to remain unified, steady, and quietly expansive.
