Standing Four-Armed Vishnu in Panchaloha Bronze – Lost-Wax Method, Swamimalai

Vishnu stands in a composed samapada, his feet aligned upon a lotus pedestal fitted with lateral handles, identifying the image as an utsava-bera intended for ritual movement. The upright stance forms a clear vertical axis, allowing the figure to remain steady whether at rest or in procession.

The iconography follows established convention with measured precision. The kirita-mukuta rises in tiered symmetry, while makara kundalas frame the face, and the yajnopavita crosses the torso in a controlled line. The lower garment falls in evenly structured pleats, maintaining clarity across the form without excess elaboration.

In the upper hands, the chakra and shankha define his sustaining role, while the lower hands hold abhaya and gada, completing the canonical arrangement. The expression remains calm, with softly modelled features and a steady gaze.

The bronze surface is worked with restraint, allowing proportion and structure to remain primary. The sculpture holds a dual presence, suited equally to ritual movement and still display, where form and function remain closely aligned.
