Architectural Yali Bracket Pair in Wood

This pair of yali brackets rises in a dynamic, vertical surge, conceived as both structural support and sculptural presence. Identically carved, each form combines multiple animal attributes into a single, commanding figure.

The body curves upward with a horse-like back, while the neck and mane carry a leonine force. The trunk and tusk extend forward with the weight of an elephant, and the limbs shift between animal strength and stylised, almost human articulation, creating a composite anatomy that feels both controlled and unpredictable.

A rider sits astride the yali, holding reins and guiding cords, introducing a human scale within the heightened, mythical form. Below, a smaller elephant anchors the base, grounding the otherwise rising movement and stabilising the composition.

The wood is finely carved, with surfaces alternating between smooth volumes and sharply incised ornament. Polychrome layers in muted reds, greens, and ochres settle into the contours, enhancing depth while preserving clarity of form.
