Colossal Hand-Carved Wooden Ganesha with Creeper Arch and Double Kirtimukha Crest

Larger than life in both scale and presence, this seated Ganesha immediately dominates the field of vision, so expansive that the eye cannot register it in a single glance. The body is broad and grounded, the volume of the form clearly felt, with a smooth, matte surface that retains the natural warmth of wood, giving the mammoth sculpture an earth-bound presence.

The surrounding arch rises like an architectural frame, densely worked with flowering creepers that twist, loop, and return in continuous motion. At the top, a pair of kirtimukhas anchors the composition, marking the sacred threshold, while the pillars carry the same level of detailing downward. The carving is so precise that sections of the arch and frieze begin to resemble woven patterns rather than chiselled wood.

Mango imagery appears repeatedly: suspended near the fan-like ears, a bunch of mango held in hand, and drawn into the trunk. Within traditional iconography, the mango signifies fertility, sweetness, and fulfilment, reinforcing Ganesha’s association with prosperity and auspicious beginnings.

Below, the pedestal extends into a deeply articulated base, where multiple forms of Ganapati are carved in recessed panels, each precise and self-contained. Bands of ornament run across it like layered textiles, grounding the immense presence above.

The work holds the room not through height alone, but through the sustained labour visible in every inch, where scale and detail meet without compromise.
