Handcrafted Wooden Padmanabhaswamy Sculpture

Vishnu reclines in the expansive Ananta Shayana, the body stretched in serene repose upon the coiled serpent, whose raised hood forms a protective canopy. This horizontal stillness becomes the defining presence, where vastness is expressed through composure. From his navel rises Brahma, framed beneath a kirtimukha arch, marking the emergence of creation within the calm of preservation.

At the foreground, a shrine-like composition presents Sri and Bhudevi, standing in composed symmetry, grounding the vast cosmic form into a more intimate devotional focus. Their placement creates a layered visual axis that moves from the reclining figure to the standing divinities and back again.

Attendants gather with clarity and purpose. Garuda and Hanuman stand in reverence, while Shiva appears as a witnessing presence, completing a rare and integrated divine assembly. The shiva lingam placed before the composition introduces a grounded focal point, anchoring the scene within ritual space.

The serpent’s scaled body, the layered couch, and the carved base evoke a textured terrain, while the arch above structures the composition with density and rhythm.

In wood, the carving achieves remarkable depth. The polished surface enhances warmth, while intricate detailing gathers shadow, allowing the sculpture to hold space like a living shrine, expansive, layered, and contemplative.
