Temple-Scale Balaji Wood Sculpture with Dashavatara, Lakshmi and Padmavati

Venkateswara stands in a frontal, axial posture at the centre, enclosed within a deeply carved architectural frame that reads like a complete temple translated into wood. The figure is held upright and composed, with the hand extended in varada, while the dense ornamentation across the body is integrated into the vertical clarity of the form.

Surrounding him, the aureole unfolds as a layered field, with the dashavatara arranged within it, creating a continuous narrative around the central presence.

The upper register is anchored by a pronounced kirtimukha, echoed again within the canopy, while makara forms and yali figures extend outward along the sides, adding movement to the otherwise symmetrical structure. Below, Lakshmi and Padmavati appear in flanking positions, grounding the composition in its devotional context.

The pedestal is equally articulated, with Padmanabha at the centre, accompanied by Garuda and Hanuman, followed by Jaya and Vijaya, and the conch and discus motifs. Carved in wood with high relief and fine piercing, the surface carries depth and shadow within every recess.

Vertical and immersive, the sculpture functions as a complete shrine presence, suited to a dedicated interior space where its layered detail can be experienced closely.
