Held within a large vintage wooden frame, this expansive Tanjore painting presents the theme of Darbaar Krishna, where Krishna is seated at the centre upon an ornate throne. His form is richly adorned with layered ornaments, including the makara motif, a marker of sovereignty and divine authority.
The court unfolds through a structured architectural setting, with arches rising overhead, crowned by a kirtimukha, and suspended lamps adding depth to the interior. Around him, gopis gather in close formation, three on each side, their bodies angled inward in attentive offering.
Each figure is rendered with careful detail, from the softness of Krishna’s rounded form to the expressive scale of his eyes and the composed dignity of his posture. Ornament and gesture are held in balance across the scene.
Encased in a vintage teakwood frame, the painting occupies space with a strong visual presence, drawing the viewer into its central courtly arrangement.
