Life-Size Uma Parvati as Bhogashakti in Panchaloha Bronze – Swamimalai, Tamil Nadu

Uma appears here in her bhoga-shakti (as the power of Shiva)  aspect, seated in an easeful lalitasana, the body relaxed yet precisely aligned. The torso remains upright while one leg folds inward and the other extends downward, creating a poised asymmetry that defines the composition. The raised hand forms a gentle gesture of offering, while the other rests lightly, completing a circuit of stillness rather than action.

This form does not emphasise power through weapons or multiplicity, but through presence. As bhoga-shakti, Parvati embodies fullness, sensuality, and the sustaining aspect of Shakti within temple tradition. The body is modelled with remarkable sensitivity, the transitions between torso, waist, and limbs rendered in smooth, continuous planes that hold both weight and softness.

The drapery is closely worked, following the contours in fine, repetitive bands, while ornament is kept restrained, allowing the form itself to remain primary. The scale intensifies this effect, bringing the figure into direct spatial engagement.
