Pratyangira with Yali Base and Kirtimukha Prabhavali in Panchaloha Bronze – Swamimalai, Tamil Nadu

Pratyangira stands within a rising prabhavali of flame, her leonine face held in a state of controlled intensity. The wide, fixed gaze, flared nostrils, and parted mouth with extended tongue articulate not unrestrained fury but force held in command. The flames that rise around her crown merge with the form, extending the head into a field of radiating energy.

In her hands she holds the Sun and Moon, placing her beyond the measured cycles of time and duality. A serpent coils across her torso and through her grasp, its sinuous line integrated into the body, signalling her authority over latent and obstructive forces. The skull garland encircles her form in a continuous rhythm, marking dissolution as part of an ordered whole.

Beneath her raised foot lies Rahu, subdued yet alert, his presence contained within the composition. At the base, yalis flank the pedestal, their animated bodies reinforcing the threshold-like quality of the image, while the kirtimukha crowns the arch above.
